Perfect haircut
I was relieved to see that staff members of Toni&Guy, Cambridge, were wearing masks, and asking customers to do likewise; had screens between wash basins; and were operating an ‘every other chair’ policy, i.e. leaving a free seat between clients. A hairdressing establishment must be a risky environment for the transmission of Covid and many of us have people in our lives whom we still need to protect, or require protection ourselves. The fact that Toni&Guy would be willing potentially to lose business to protect its staff and customers is admirable.
My hairdresser, Myesha, spent a long time discussing with me my exact requirements. I had brought a photograph which showed the style into which I wanted my hair to grow: I can’t afford frequent cuts so wished to stay looking close to my ideal for longer. Myesha took my complex request into her stride. On this occasion, she shampooed my hair herself – a lovely massage! She then cut my hair with extreme care and a brilliant technique. When it came to drying my hair, Myesha showed me exactly how to recreate the look at home, e.g. demonstrating how to insert sectioning clips to create waves at the correct places, and waiting while I tried out the technique for myself under her direction. Myesha even told me how to create the best look for my hair depending on the time I had available – e.g. if I were in a hurry, towel dry quickly, scrunch, blow dry rapidly; if I were going somewhere special, blow dry using a round brush. She told me which products to use as my hair grew – no conditioner for a month, then only on the tips etc. Her care and concern were unparalleled.
My haircut is perfect (even before it has had time to grow to my ‘ideal’ length); I now know how to maintain my hair and cut to the best standard; and I can already see that my hair will grow into exactly the style in the photograph.
The haircut was very expensive (for me) but really worth it (to me): I left the salon looking and feeling a hundred times better than when I entered. Thank you.
