TONI&GUY YORK opened in the town in 1998.

We are committed to providing the ultimate salon experience, paying great attention to customer service. Our talented team of stylists and technicians are on hand to give you expert advice on the latest trends and services.

Members of our salon are part of the TONI&GUY Session Team and have worked alongside the International Artistic Team on catwalk shows at London Fashion Week, bringing the latest trends from the catwalk to our clients.

Members of our Colour team hold the prestigious Wella master colour expert-their knowledge and expertise are on hand to advise you on the latest colours and techniques.

We offer many additional services including Bridal and Occasion hair, the NanoKeratin Smoothing blow-dry and Microlinks/ring Tape extensions. Our wide range of haircare products include label.m, Kerastase, GHD, Wella, Tangle Teezer to keep your hair salon perfect until your next visit.

STRENGTH IN STYLE Strength in Style is now available in this salon, offering people affected by cancer specialist support and advice on hair care. This service includes styling pre, during and post treatment hair, and wig personalisation with the option to purchase synthetic and human hair wigs. I love coming to Toni and Guy. I used to find going to the hairdressers quite stressful but I love it now. The staff are really friendly and I would highly recommend Rona and Matt. Also the massage chair is amazing!

All the staff at T&G York are helpful and professional. You get the sense that they care about their clients. It is rare to experience a bit of care and attention these days but the ladies and gents who care for us at the salon are the best I have encountered in my (too many) years of haircuts.

Claire is by far the best hairdresser I have ever had. I have thick / heavy hair which I have always found hard to manage. Claire gets rid of the weight and makes my hair light with texture – and easy for me to manage. I’m not saying anything which is new or surprising here but Claire is extremely skilled – and I wouldn’t let anyone else cut my hair now! Thank you Claire!

Matt is a great hairdresser and I’d recommend him to anyone.
They had good Covid safety in place but a non mask wearer came in at the end of my haircut and I couldn’t wait to get out of there! No one seemed to ask him to put one on as he sat having his hair cut, maybe he was exempt but I didn’t want to sit near that guy.

As a person who has deep anxieties about getting covid I haven’t had my hair done since pre lockdown. Everyone at T&G made me feel completely safe and everything is sterilised and distance maintained. No ‘accidental’ breaches. Over lockdown I went to see a stylist more Local to me in Newcastle (Not Toni and Guy). I was left very unsatisfied and upset.

When in the salon recently to see Claire for a Cut, Rona was very willing to take the time to offer some advice regarding the colour and condition of my hair and what could be done to resolve the damaged caused.

Rona listened to what I needed- low maintenance colour that wouldn’t cost me a fortune.
She was able to completely transform the look of my hair In a short amount of time.
She talked me through every step of the process offering reassurance whilst taking her time to ensuring a quality service was delivered.

From the moment I arrived I was taken care of. The staff were accommodating and put me at ease immediately.

I travel to York from Newcastle just to see Claire at Toni and Guy. It’s completely worth the extra effort as I know I will leave the salon feeling incredible every time!

Claire is attentive, really taking the time to listen what I want. She has a great eye for latest trends and I completely trust her professional judgment as she suggests ideas to keep my cut current.

Aside from the hair cut and ample professional hair care advice, due to Claire’s down to earth personality and genuine empathy for her clients (in my experience) you feel completely in safe hands.

I look forward to my next visit to Toni and Guy, York and I will continue to recommend Claire to my family and friends.

Stylist Ruined My Hair

As a regular Toni & Guy customer at another branch, I was eager to get my hair cut at your store. I showed the stylist a photo of what I wanted and what I came out with was the exact opposite. I asked for my hair to cut to a length where it would sit on my collarbone as well as asking for the bottom layers to be thinned in order to control the thickness of my naturally thick hair. I had no issues with the styling of my hair until it was fully dried and the stylist took it upon himself to cut MORE layers into my hair after already having done so to thin it initially. The way the stylist layered my hair was choppy and has left my hair to be in different lengths. I was previously happy with the length of my hair after it had been cut and dried, however once the stylist began to add more layers, this length disappeared and now my hair is well above my shoulders (something which the stylist actually advised against when I mentioned wanting my hair shorter). As for my fringe, I asked for it to be tidied and to be made slightly thicker as having a thin fringe was not my style. What I ended up with is not what I asked for. My fringe has been cut straight across (causing me to resemble a character in the film Dumb and Dumber) and the prior feathering of my fringe has been completely removed. I am appalled with the outcome of my hair and quite frankly devastated. I am embarrassed to be seen outside and have actually avoided leaving my flat for the past 24 hours in fear of being ridiculed by my peers for such a obscene haircut.
On top of all of this, I was refused student discount (because it “wasn’t available”) and therefore forced to pay full price of £41 for a haircut that I could have given myself at home.

I will not be returning to this store and will definitely NOT recommend it to anyone else, something which is disappointing to me due to the fantastic service I have received at other branches of Toni & Guy.
